What is Disabled&?

Community-Driven Events for Disabled Creatives

Disabled& is a first-of-its-kind community that celebrates disability not just as an identity, but as a source of style, ambition, creative power and connection. Founded by self proclaimed “disabled fashion girlie,” April Lockhart, Disabled& exists to create opportunities for people with disabilities to gather, grow and create. Whether you’re sharing an intimate dinner with new friends, swapping insight with fellow entrepreneurs, or mentoring the youngest members of the Disabled& community, this space was made with you in mind.

Meet April

When April was a little girl with a limb difference, embracing her disability seemed it might never happen. But when she began opening up about it online in 2022, everything changed.

Now a fashion aficionado, dynamic public speaker, and advocate for the disabled community, April’s story has garnered attention from publications such as Vogue, The Cut, Byrdie, Refinery 29, Fast Company. Her 2023 debut at New York Fashion Week walking for Victoria’s Secret’s adaptive line and her work as a model for Anthropologie’s adaptive collection has solidified her status as a trailblazer in both the fashion industry and advocacy space. In 2025 April was featured on the Forbes 30 under 30 list.

Disabled& is her latest venture, designed to empower disabled creatives through community-driven events.
